In a Jar Recipes

Apple Butter Bars:
1 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp. salt and baking soda, 1 1/2 cups quick oats and sugar, 1 cup chopped nuts.
Mix flour, baking soda, and salt together. Cooking Instructions: Layer ingredients in a jar, in order given.
Press each layer down before adding next. Instructions for Apple-Butter Bars Mix:.
Spoon out nuts; set aside. Empty bar mix into a large bowl. Add 1 cup melted butter or margarine; mix well.
Press half of batter into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch greased pan. Mix 1 1/2 cups apple butter with nuts. Spread over
batter in pan. Add remaining mixture. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 50-60 minutes or until
browned.
Brownies in a Jar:
2 1/4c. white sugar, 2/3c. cocoa, 1/2c. pecans chopped, 1 1/4c. all purpose flour, 1tsp. baking powder, 1tsp.
salt, 3/4c. butter to be added by recipient, 4 eggs to be added by recipient.
Pour sugar into a clean and dry one quart jar. Press down firmly. Add cocoa powder and press down firmly.
Pour in chopped pecans, making sure they are evenly layered. Combine flour, baking powder and salt, pour
into jar and seal. Attach following directions to jar: Empty mix into large bowl. Stir to blend throughly. Add
3/4c. butter or margarine and 4 beaten eggs. Mix until completely blended. Spread batter onto lightly
greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done. Cool in pan and cut into 2 inch
squares. Makes 24 brownies.
Butterscotch Brownie Mix in a Jar:
1/2c. flaked coconut, 3/4c. chopped pecans, 2c. brown sugar packed, 2c. all purppose flour, 1 1/2Tbs. baking
powder, 1/4tsp. salt. Ingredients to prepare mix: 3/4c. butter or margarine, 2 eggs slightly beaten, 2tsp.
vanilla extract.
Mix together flour, salt and baking powder. Set aaside. Layer ingredients in order given in a one quart 2
sized wide mouth canning jar. add flour mixture last. Press each layer firmly in place. Attach this message to
jar: Butterscothch Brownies: Empty jar of brownie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to throughly
blend mix. Add 3/4c. butter or margarine, softened at room temperature. DO NOT USE DIET MARGARINE. Mix
in 2 eggs slightly beaten and 2tsp. vanilla. Mix until completely blended. Spread batter into a sprayed 9x13
inch metal pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool 15 minutes in baking pan. Cut brownies into 1 1/2
inch squares. Cool completely in pan. Makes 24 brownies.
Cake in a Jar:
2 cups all purpose flour, 2/3 cup cocoa, 1 tsp. salt, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/3 cup sugar.
Layer ingredients into an ungreased 13x9 pan, stir in 3/4 cup vegetable oil, one tsp vanilla extract and 2
cups of water -- Mix well. Bake at 350* for 30-35 minutes -- Cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar.makes 18
servings. If giving as a gift please include finishing instructions on a tag to hang from jar.
Candy Cookie Jar Mix:
1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla powder, 1 tsp. baking soda, 2 cups flour.
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Whisk the ingredients together until they are evenly distributed,
making sure all brown sugar lumps are crushed. Store in an airtight container. Attach this to the Jar.
Candy Cookies. Makes 3 dozen cookies.
1 cup unsalted butter or margarine, softened. 1 large egg. 1 package Candy Cookie Mix.
1 cup candy bar chunks (Reese's peanut butter cups, Butterfinger bars, white or milk chocolate chunks).
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In the large bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter until it is smooth.
Add the egg, and continue beating until the egg is combined. Add the Candy Cookie Mix and candy bar
chunks and blend on low just until the cookie mix is incorporated. Form the cookies into 1 1/2-inch balls&
place them 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until golden on the
edges. Remove from oven, and cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes.
Cappuccino In a Jar:
2/3c. instant coffee granules, 1c. non-dairy powdered coffee creamer, 1c. instant chocolate drink mix, 1/2c.
sugar, 3/4tsp. cinnamon, 1/2tsp. nutmeg.
Have ready 2 12oz. canning jars. Put the instant coffee in a food processor, and process to a fine powder. If
you don't have a food processor, put it in a large plastic bag and crush with a rolling pen. In a large bowl
combine creamer, chocolate mix, instant coffee, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir together till well mixed.
Spoon into 2-12oz jars. Attach a note to each jar that reads: Cappuccino Mix: Mix three tablespoons of
powder with 6 fluid ounces hot water. Makes 2 jars.
Chocolate Chip Cookies:
1 3/4 cups flour, 3/4 tsp. baking soda and salt, 1 1/2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips, 3/4 cup packed brown
sugar, 1/2 cup sugar.
mix flour, salt and baking soda in a small bowl in a 1 quart jar add flour mixture layer remaining ingredients
in given order, packing down after each addition seal with lid, decorate with fabric, bows, etc and tie on the
following recipe on a card: beat 3/4 c butter, 1 egg, and 3/4 tsp vanilla in a large bowl. Add baking mix and
1/2 c chopped nuts, mix well drop by spoonfuls onto a baking sheet.
bake at 375 for 10 minutes. cool and remove to wire racks. yield 2 dozen cookies.
Chocolate Covered Raisin Cookies in a Jar:
3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1 cup chocolate covered raisins, 1/2 cup chocolate chips, 1 3/4
cups all purpose flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. baking soda.
Combine flour and baking powder and baking soda so this can be layered in your jar. Layer ingredients in
wide mouth quart jar in order listed above (flour layer will have other ingredients added in). Press each
layer firmly before adding next ingredient. I attach the following recipe card instructions: Empty cookie mix
in a large mixing bowl. Using your hands to throughly combine ingredients -- then add the following:
1 stick butter or margarine.softened, please do not use diet.it won't work in this recipe. 1 egg slightly
beaten. 1 tsp vanilla extract. Mix until completely blended. Shape into walnut sized balls. Place 2" apart on
sprayed baking sheets. Bake at 375* for 13-15 minutes until tops are very lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on
baking sheets before removing to wire racks to finish cooling. Makies 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
Chunky Chocolate Cookies:
Mix: 2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1
pinch salt, 3/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips and white chocolate chips.
Preparation Ingredients: 1 egg, 3/4 cup butter softened.
Mix Instructions. In 1 quart jar, pack brown sugar in bottom and level. Add sugar and level. In small bowl,
combine well flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Spoon flour combination over sugar and level carefully.
Add semi-sweet chocolate chips over flour combination. Add white chocolate chips and level. Place lid on
jar.
Preparation Instructions to go on Jar. Preheat oven to 350°F. Pour jar contents into large mixing bowl. Add
egg and butter. Mix on low speed (or by hand) until thoroughly mixed. Drop heaping teaspoonfuls onto
ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 13- 15 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute and then transfer to
cooling rack.
Chunky Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix in a Jar:
3/4c. firmly packed dark brown sugar, 1/2c. sugar, 1/4c. cocoa powder (clean inside of jar with dry paper
towel after this layer), 1/2c. chopped pecans, 1c. chocolate chips, 1 3/4c. flour mixed with 1tsp. baking soda,
1tsp. baking powder and 1/4tsp. salt.
Layer ingredients in order in a 1 quart wide mouth canning jar. Make sure you pack all down firmly before
adding the flour mixture it will be a tight fit. Instructions to attach to jar: Empty jar of cookie mix into a large
mixing bowl. Use your hands to throughly blend the mix. Add 1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine softened at
room temperature, 1 egg slightly beaten and 1tsp. vanilla. Mix until completely blended. The doough is
sticky. You will need to finish mixing with your hands. Shape into walnut size balls and place 2 inches apart
on parchment lined baking sheets. Do NOT USE WAX PAPER. Bake at 350 degrees for 11-13 minutes. Cool
five minutes on baking sheet. Remove to racks to finish cooling. Makes 3 dozen cookies.
Cinnamon Mocha Mix:
2 cups sweetend cocoa mix, 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 cup instant coffee crystals.
Combine all ingredients in a bowl -- Seal and shake till combined really well. Store in a sealed container.
To use: combine 3 Tbs. mix with 2/3 cup boiling water or low fat milk to make a really delicious drink.
Cinnamon Pancake Mix in a Jar:
3c. all purpose flour, 3Tbs. sugar, 2Tbs. baking powder, 4 1/2tsp. cinnamon, 1 1/4tsp. salt.
In a one quart jar, combine all ingredients, seal jar. Attach the following directions to the jar. Directions: In
medium bowl combine 3/4c. milk, 1 egg and 2Tbs. oil. With fork blend in 1 1/3c. pancake mix until moistened
but still lumpy. Cook on lightly greased griddle or skillet. Makes about 10 5 inch pancakes.
Corn Bread Jar Mix:
1 cup flour, 1 cup cornmeal, 1 tsp. salt, 1/3 cup powdered milk, 1 Tbs. baking powder.
Sift ingredients together and put into a bag. Label: Put dry ingredients into mixing bowl. In small bowl,
combine 1 cup water, 1 egg, and 1/3 cup oil. Stir into dry ingredients and mix well. Pour into a well-buttered
pie plate. Bake at 425 degrees for 25 minutes, or until golden.
Creamy Cocoa:
4 cups unsweet cocoa powder sifted, 6 cups sifted powdered sugar, 8 cups instant milk run through
blender till powdered, 8 cups dry non dairy powdered coffee creamer, 4 cups instant vanilla pudding mix.
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and blend with a whisk. Store in airtight container. Combine, to taste, with
hot water or milk.
Dog Biscuits in a Jar:
1 cup all purpose flour unbleached, 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal, 1/2 cup instant non
fat dry milk powder, 1 tsp. brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, 1 pinch salt. You will need 16" of pretty
ribbon. 1 large envelope, with a hole punched in left hand corner, dog bone biscuit cutter, to attach to jar.
TYPE BAKING INSTRUCTIONS ON A PRETTY PIECE OF PAPER AND TUCK INSIDE THE ENVELOPE.
In a medium bowl, combine the flours, cornmeal, milk powder, sugar, garlic powder and salt. Using a funnel,
pour dry ingredients into a jar. Clost jar tightly. Tie dog biscuit cutter and instruction card around the top of
the jar with a pretty ribbon. (BAKING INSTRUCTIONS)to be type on pretty card. Position a rack in the center
of the oven -- Preheat it to 250*.
DOGGY BISCUITS.
Place Doggy Biscuits mix in a medium size bowl. Add 1 large egg, 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese,
1/4 cup grated Paremesan cheese -- and 1/4 to 1/2 cup (or more) hot chicken broth -- beef broth or very hot
water. Make a dough that is very heavy, but not sticky. Add more flour or water, 1 teaspoon at a time if
dough is too moist, Use more flour, or too dry, use more water. Turn out dough onto a floured pastry cloth
and knead 8-10 times until elastic. Let dough rest for 5 minutes. Roll out dough.to about 1/2" thick and cut
with a dog bone shaped cutter. Place cookies close together, as they willnot spread -- Bake for 1 hour.
Rotate the baking trays in the oven, turn sheet around 180* -- and bake for another half an hour. Cool the
cookies on the pan for 1 minutes., then transfer to wire cake rack to cool completely. Yield depends on size
of dog bone cutter.
